I Made a Snow Friend - sung to "I Saw Three Ships"

I made a snow friend out of snow
One winter day, one winter day.
I made a snow friend out of snow
One winter day in the morning.

I rolled a snowball big as could be
One winter day, one winter day.
I rolled a snowball big as could be
One winter day in the morning.

I made another one, smaller you see,
One winter day, one winter day.
I made another one, smaller you see,
One winter day in the morning.

I rolled one more; now I had three
One winter day, one winter day.
And stacked them up as quick as could be
One winter day in the morning.

I added a nose and two eyes to see
One winter day, one winter day.
I gave him a mouth. He said, "Hi!" to me
One winter day in the morning.

      Walking in the Snow

Let's go walking in the snow.
      Walking, walking, on tiptoe.
Lift your one foot way up high.
Then the other to keep dry.
All around the yard we skip.
Watch your step or you might slip!

I'm a little Snowman By Jan Payne

I'm a little snowman, short and stout,
Sticks for arms and a carrot snout.
When the weather warms up, gosh, ho gee!
I melt and there's no more of me!

      I Will Build a Snowman

I will build a snowman (pretend to build a snowman)
make him big and tall (pretend to pile snow on top)
See if you can hit him
with a big snowball (pretend to throw snowballs..)

      Snowflakes Falling

      One by one,
Time to play and have some fun.
      Build a snowman
      Snowballs, too,
Come and see what you can do.
      Snowflakes falling
      One by one,
Time to play and have some fun.

Snowflakes Falling - sung to "Up on the housetop"

Snowflakes are falling on the ground
On our haouses and in our town
On my nose and in my hair
      Snowflakes are falling everywhere.
Oh, oh, oh, out we go
Oh, oh, oh, in the snow
      Making snowmen
      Sliding, too,
There are lots of things to do.

Snow - sung to "This old Man"

Snow is falling on the ground
We can make things all around
      Like snowmen, snowballs
      Snow forts, too.
There are lots of things to do.
Snow is falling come and see
You can have some fun with me
      Sliding, skating, skiing, too,
There are lots of things to do.

Snowman - sung to "I'm a Little Teapot"

      I'm a little snowman
      Round and fat
      I have a broomstick
      I have a hat.
      With my friends
      I play in the snow.
      But when the sun shines
      It's time to go.

      Snow Riddles

      I have six sides
And I fall from the sky.
      I land on your nose,
      I land on your eye.
Can you guess what name have I?

      Round balls of snow
      And a funny-looking hat,
      A broomstick and a carrot
And some buttons that are black.
What can you make from all of that?

      I travel through the snow
      And you sit on me.
I make a lot of noise,
And on the bottom there are skiis.
What is the name that you call me?

      You can sit on me
      And slide in the snow,
      Or someone can pull you
      Wherever you go.
What is the name that I want you to know?

      S-S-S-S-S-S - poem

      Seven silly snowmen
      Sitting side by side
      Out came the sun,
      And they had to hide.
      Two behind the sled
      Two behind the tree,
      Two behind the snowbank,
      And one behind me.

      S is for snowman
      round and fat.
      Sitting outside wearing a hat.
      I brought him inside and
      sat him on the mat,
      and before very long,
      the snowman was flat.

      S is for snowman,
      skiis, and sled

      S is for snuggling
      safe in bed.

      S is for scarf
      socks and sun.

      S is for snowflakes
      melting on my tongue.

      Funny Little Snowman

      A funny little snowman
      Sat in our yard today.
He said, "Come out and play with me
      Before I melt away!"
He placed a hat upon his head
      And began to dance around.
We laughed and sang some silly songs
      And fell upon the ground,
And when the sun began to shine
      Beating down that day,
      My funny little snowman
      Began to melt away.

      Poor Mr. Snowman

      Poor Mr. Snowman
      Dressed in white
      Standing in the cold wind,
      Freezing all night.
      I would bring him inside
      And make him feel better,
      But Mommy says he likes
      This chilly weather.

You'll need five bean bags. Have the children sit in a circle on the floor and sing to "Mary Had A Little Lamb."

Pass one snowball round and round
Round and round, round and round
Pass one snowball round and round
      Round the circle.

Continue with each snowball to five, then count backwards taking away. Good practice for adding/subtracting one.

      I'm A Little Snowman

I'm a little snowman round and fat.
Here is my broom and here is my hat.
When the sun comes out it's time to say
'This is the end of me today!'

      I'm a Little Snowman - sung to I'm a Little Teapot"

      I'm a little snowman, short and fat;
Here is my broomstick and here is my hat.
When the sun comes, I melt away.
      Down, down, down, down, whoops.....
      I'M A PUDDLE!!!

      Five Little Snowmen

5 little snowmen standing in a row.
Each had a hat and a big red bow.
Out came the sun and shone all day.
      1 little snowman melted away.
(Continue until you have no snowmen left.)

      Activity:
Type out the five verses to the poem and cut out 5 snowmen for each child. Let the children decorate the snowmen, glue them onto a long piece of paper, cut apart the poem and add them in order underneath each snowman. As you read the poem, they fold each snowman so you can't see it as it "melts away."

      Red Nose

Where did you get that little red nose?
Jack Frost kissed it I suppose.
      He kissed it once.
      He kissed it twice.
Poor little nose as cold as ice.

Snow - sung to "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"

      Snow is falling all around,
      Falling, falling to the ground.
I catch snowflakes on my tongue.
Building snowmen is so much fun.
      Snow is falling all around,
      Falling, falling to the ground.

      Snowflakes Falling Down

      Snowflakes, snowflakes falling down,
      (flutter fingers downward.)
      All around, on the ground.
      (make spreading movement with hands.)
Get the sled and climb so high,
      (walk fingers up arm.)
      Down we'll go, slippety-slide!
      (slide hand down arm.)

      Snowfriend

      Pack a snowball.
      Make it round.
Roll it, roll it, along the ground.
      Make one big ball, and one of middle size;
Then roll a smaller ball. Add a nose and eyes.
Give him a broom and a scarf of blue.
Now there's a friend to play with you! (point)

Snowman, Snowman - sung to "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star"

Snowman, snowman, where did you go?
I built you yesterday out of snow.
I built you high and I built you fat.
I put on eye and nose and a hat.
And now you're gone - all melted away.
But it's sunny outside, so I'll go and play.

      Winter Days - (Flannel Story)

Five little snowmen round and fat.

      The First Snow

      Watching.
      Hoping.
      Sighting the first flake.
      Watching.
      Wondering.
      What will I make?
      A snowman, a fort?
      Angels in the snow?
      A thousand flakes are falling.
      Let's go! Let's go!! Let's go!!!

The Snowman Ran And Ran - sung to "Row Row Row Your Boat"

      The snow, snow, snowman,
      Came out to play.
But the children cried, 'Get back inside,
      The sun is out today.'
      The snow, snow, snowman,
      Started to run away,
But when he ran, he ran and ran
      Until a puddle lay.

      Some Snow Fingerplays

      1. A chubby little snowman
      Had a carrot nose
      Along came a bunny
      And what do you suppose?
      That hungry little bunny
      Looking for some lunch
Ate that little snowman's nose Nibble, nibble, crunch!

      2. Here is a snowman
      Round as a ball
      He has 2 eyes
      But he's not very tall
And if the sun shines down on him today
My jolly snowman will melt away!

      3. Boot Prints (a poem)
Up and down the yard we go
Making boot prints in the snow
      Big steps, little steps
      Around and around
Oh what fun with snow on the ground!
      Black boots, white boots
      Red boots bright
Isn't it strange our boot prints are white?

      4. 5 Little Snowmen

5 little snowmen standing round my door
This one melted, and then there were four.

4 little smowmen beneath a tree
This one melted, and then there were three!

3 little snowmen all have mittens blue
This one melted and then there were 2.

2 little snowmen standing in the sun
This one melted and then there was 1

1 little snowman wanted to run
But he melted away, and then there was none!

(A fun way to do this is to have the children, 5 at a time, act out the part of the snowmen. They especially like to melt onto the floor! Last year I remember taking some mittens, scarves, hats, etc. and having the children choose a prop to dress up with during their turn as a snowman.)

      I'm a Little Snowman - sung to "I'm a Little Teapot"

      I'm a little snowman
Short and fat (knees bent slightly, arms curved out at sides)
Here is my scarf (hand movement across neck and shoulders)
And here is my hat. (pretend to put one on)

When the sun comes out (arms up and together to form large circle above head)
I'll melt away (sing slowly, sink to floor, pause)
But don't worry (sit up, look confident)
I'll be back some day! (point to self, tapping chest with finger)

      Snowflakes falling
      From the sky,
      From the sky,
      From the sky,
      Snowflakes falling
      From the sky
      To the earth below.

      Watch them as they
      Dance and whirl,
      Dance and whirl,
      Dance and whirl
      Watch them as they
      Dance and whirl
      Sort white winter snow.

      This is the way
      we dance around
      dance around, dance around,
      This is the way
      We dance around
Our snow pal in the morning

      This is the way
      We skip around,
      Skip around, Skip around
      This is the way
      We skip around
Our snow pal in the morning

      This is the way
      We twirl around,
      Twirl around, twirl around
      This is the way
      We twirl around
Our snow pal in the morning.
