Pipe Cleaner Snowflakes
I saw this on HGTV the other night...take white pipecleaners and cut them in half. then take a smaller one (I cut one in thirds) and wrap around a bundle of them. Then you just spread the cleaners out and it makes snowflakes. SOOO easy and cheap. I had my 2 yo do this too. I then hung them all around the room. Walmart had some that were sparkly/glittery. They are fun! I am also taking colored pipecleaners and cutting them in thirds, doing the same process, to make ornaments for the tree. Easy and quick!

Glue Snowmen
Have the children to draw glue snowmen on wax paper- I drew circles and had them fill them in as they didn't squeeze in a circle! Of course this was popular as everyone knows kids just LOVE to squeeze the glue out like crazy! Stick a paper clip on the top of the head and cover it with glue if necessary. Then give then a little black top hat out of construction paper. Add little twigs for arms, a construction paper tiny orange carrot nose, and paper punch dots from black paper for eyes and buttons.Let them dry for about two days, then peel them off the wax paper and put on a string! They are ADORABLE!

Art Ideas
-White Paint on Blue Paper.
-Glue cotton balls onto dark paper or glue cotton balls together to make snowmen.
-Use hole punches to make snow and glue it to dark paper. (Use scissors or just tear paper for younger children.)
-Make paper snowflakes. (4 year olds & older.)
-Make Snowmen Masks--Staple three paper plates together. Have the children draw eyes on the face. I cut the eyes out. Then the children can draw faces, hats, and other things on the snowmen. Use for dramatic play.

Snowman Craft
Faces: Use large paper plates for the face, construction paper for hats and noses, crayons to draw facial features and ribbons to decorate the hat. You can also make this into a mobile by using a small paper plate for the snowman face and a large one for the body.Attach with yarn and hang.
Another fun way to make a snowman (or a snowflake "person") is to glue a white lacy doily onto a dark piece of construction paper. Add face, hat, boots and mittens.

Snowman
Cut out three white circles; talk about small, medium, large. Glue together to make snowman. Using scraps of contruction paper and imagination, add hat, hole-punch eyes, scarf, nose, etc. Then brush the white parts with watered-down glue. Sprinkle salt from salt shaker onto glue, It's snowing! (The kids love this part!) Tap off excess. When dry, glue snowman to top half of blue construction.
Another fun smowman, great for younger kids if you precut the necessary items:
Use dark blue or gray construction paper (9 x 12) fold in half lenghtwise (tall land skinny). Cut out a snowman shape. Put clear contact paper over the opening. Hole-punch black eyes. Press onto contact. Add orange triangle carrot nose. Add scrap for scarf. Perhaps hole-punch buttons. Sprinkle with salt. Tap off excess. Cut out contruction paper hat. Glue hat on. Maybe brown paper stick arms. Tape to window. Next we printed snow flakes using thread spool and white paint with silver glitter. The children chose black or dark blue paper. After they printed the great looking snow flakes I had them name their creation. It was very interesting how seriously they took giving a title to their painting. Staple a small paper plate to the top of a large paper plate. This is the head and body. Let the children cut out an orange carrot nose and a black top hat. Paint on eyes and a mouth with glue, and then sprinkle black glitter over this. This gives such a great effect. Glue on the carrot nose and hat. Tie a piece of colored crepe paper (the streamer kind) around the neck for a scarf and glue down. They are so cute!

Sparkle Snow Paint

Make anything snowy, snowflakes, snowmen, - we made snow covered mountains with the moon and northern lights. Let dry thoroughly and it will sparkle. May also be painted (when dry) and allowed to dry again. This is a great 3 dimensional effect for snow.

Snowman Craft
I thought I'd send you a copy of the snowman craft we made today. It was so easy and you'd probably have all the supplies readily at hand.
You'll need two CD's (you could use those AOL ones that come in your mail)
A hot glue gun to glue the CD's together
Some white glue
Construction paper
Yarn or fabric
Cotton
2 bendie straws
You could make it anyway you want...using whatever colors, or materials to make the buttons, eyes, and hat. Here attached is a copy of the one we made today. I'm not sure if we'll put these on our tree or just hang on the wall. I suppose they would make good window sun catchers as well...when the sun reflects off the CD it'll make a cool effect.
